UK Steel, the trade body for the sector has appointed Gareth Stace as its new director, replacing Ian Rodgers who retires on March 31. Stace is currently Head of Climate & Environment Policy at EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation where he leads EEF’s work on a broad range of energy and environment policies, from compliance through to competitiveness.
Siempelkamp received from the Durgapur Steel Plant, India, the order to upgrade the three presses of the wheel line in the Durgapur plant. The project includes the new electrical and hydraulic controls for all presses, the supply of new mechanical components as well as a new press frame for the 20 MN dishing press.
The Aichelin Group has received the order to supply a turnkey high temperature furnace to China from voestalpine Automotive Body Parts Shenyang Co. Ltd. It is already the second plant to be built since the 2013 licence agreement with the thermal process technology firm BSN, based in Simmerath (Germany).
Philippe Darmayan has been appointed as Chairman of ArcelorMittal France. Hervé Bourrier retains his role as CEO of ArcelorMittal France. Darmayan is also Chairman of the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), President of the French Steel Federation (FFA) and co-founder of A3M, the Ores, Minerals & Metals Alliance.
Steel Dynamics Inc., has confirmed an order with Tenova Goodfellow for the supply and purchase of two Efsop holistic optimization systems for both EAF batteries at their SDI, Butler, IN steelmaking facility. Tenova's innovative technology and value proposition will provide full spectrum evaluation via upstream and downstream offgas analysis and water detection technology for all four EAF shells.
The cold rolling mill supplied by Primetals Technologies to Tangshan Iron and Steel Group Co. Ltd., a Chinese steel producer, has now been brought into production and the first coil was rolled in January
2015. The new rolling mill consists of a coupled pickling line-tandem cold mill (PLTCM), a continuous annealing line and a galvanizing line. It was constructed at the Tangshan site in Hebei Province.
